This antibody recognizes human CD33, a 67 kD single chain transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the sialoadhesin family. The antibody is highly valuable for distinguishing acute myeloid from lymphoblastic leukemias. CD33 is expressed on monocytes in peripheral blood.
